I love romance and sci-fi equally, so when I decided in my early 30s to write a book, it seemed a logical step to write a sci-fi romance.

Why?

I've always been a voracious reader. I first read Dune when I was about twelve years old, and from then I was hooked on all things sci-fi! I devoured everything from books about terraforming Mars to whacky 70s movies about eating people (Soylent Green anyone? Gross).

So why romance and not hard sci-fi?

Honestly, it's a good question. When I hit my teens I dived head first into romance. I needed to know that life would get better (because it really sucked), and that someone would love me just as I was. I didn't realize it at the time, but romance gave me hope.

Many of my women characters are scientists and engineers. Why? Because I'm a scientist (I'm a geologist by training and education), and I want to see more representation of women in STEM in fiction.

This is my small way of contributing to that.

I believe we are all lovable. Alien, human, damaged, or (seemingly) perfect. My stories feature people who are less-than-perfect, doing their best. The setting is often quite dark, and life is hard (because it is) but there's hope. And the characters who fall in love stand side-by-side against the world.

Sometimes they even fight to save it. Together.
